Susan grew up in central Illinois and received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois. She taught K-12 music in both Maryville City Schools and Blount County Schools before joining the staff at 1st UMC. Susan is a lifelong Methodist with both grandfathers serving as Methodist pastors. Susan has two grown sons and three grandchildren. She loves teaching music and directing groups of all ages. In her spare time she enjoys reading and traveling.

Chris grew up nearby in Sevierville, Tennessee, and has a Bachelors Degree in Church Vocations from Tennessee Wesleyan College. Chris is married to Anna, and they met in their church youth group (First United Methodist Church, Sevierville). They had their first child, Levi, in the fall of 2012, and they call West Knoxville home. When not at church, Chris loves being in nature, playing games, watching/playing sports, writing music, and discussing theology. Chris is excited to minister alongside of everyone here at 1st Maryville.

Denise graduated with a degree in child development. Before coming to 1st UMC she worked as a child abuse investigator and also as an adoption and foster care advocate. The importance of teaching the children of our community about God is of the upmost importance. The one thing that your child will have throughout their lifetime is their relationship with God. Denise encourages every member of the church to partner with the Children's Ministry to teach the "Good News" to the children of our community.

Nathan grew up in the Knoxville area and has lived in Clinton, Oak Ridge, and both east and west Knoxville. He graduated from Karns high school and from The University of South Florida in Tampa and is currently attending Asbury Theological Seminary in pursuit of a Master’s Degree. Prior to joining the staff here at First, Nathan served six years as the Director of Ministries at Memorial UMC in Clinton, TN.

Amelia has been blessed to have been at a variety of tables throughout her life. Born in Winston-Salem, NC she was raised Presbyterian, Moravian then Methodist. She has lived in Uganda and Tanzania and attended culinary school in Bangkok, Thailand. She worked 16 years for Williams-Sonoma, and five years as a Culinary Arts instructor at Blount Memorial. She has lived in Maryville since 1998.

Dwain is a Maryville native and grew up in 1st UMC. He is a graduate of Maryville High School and UTK. He was an accounting supervisor with Vulcan Materials Company for 32 years, retiring in May 2011. He continues accounting work for a CPA firm and a local business in a part time capacity. His and his wife Jane have been married for 44 years and have a daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Shane. Dwain served as organist at Fairview UMC from 1963-1977 and has been at 1st UMC since 1977.
